Resolution
The Supervisor Engine 720 (Sup 720) must be installed in particular slots in the 3-, 6-, 9-, and 13-slot chassis because the switch fabric is integrated with the supervisor. For slot requirements, refer to Table A:

Note: When the Sup 720 is installed in a 6513 chassis, it provides one 20 Gb connection in slots 1-8 and two 20 Gb (40 Gbps) connections to slots 9-13.
The Sup 32 can be installed in the same slots as the Sup 720:
Slot 5 or 6 in 6-slot or 9-slot chassis
Slot 7 or 8 in 13-slot chassis
Slot 1 or 2 in 3-slot chassis
