Core issue
A WS-SUP32-GE-3B directly connected to a WS-6724-SFP, without any other devices or traffic, can report incrementing out-discards on the WS-SUP32-GE-3B every five seconds, and incrementing input errors or drop errors every 30 seconds on the WS-6724-SFP.
If the WS-SUP32-GE-3B is connected directly to the WS-SUP720-3B, input errors or drops on the WS-SUP720-3B do not result, but Out-Discards still increment on the WS-SUP32-GE-3B.
Resolution
This behavior is a result of a known Cisco bug ID CSCei40623, and is cosmetic. This bug is fixed in release 8.4(4) and later.
To resolve this problem, upgrade the Cisco Catalyst OS (CatOS) to the latest maintenance release, which can be downloaded from Catalyst 6500/6000 CatOS System Software.
Note: The workaround for input errors and drops on the 7613 is to configure the ports on the directly connected link to the WS-SUP32-GE-3B as hosts. However Out-Discards still increment on the WS-SUP32-GE-3B.
