The Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series provides the broadest selection of 10/100 and 10/100/1000 Ethernet media, Power over Ethernet (PoE) inline power options, densities, performance, interoperability, and chassis deployment options. This document discusses the WS-6548-GE-TX and WS-X6748-GE-TX.
The WS-6548-GE-TX is a Cisco Catalyst 6500 48-port fabric-enabled 10/100/1000 module. Its primary application is as a premier wiring closet. It offers a buffer size of 1 MB per 8 ports.
The WS-6548V-GE-TX offers a "V" variant that includes inline power. The minimum requirement for the WS-6548-GE-TX is Supervisor Engine Software version is 7.6(1) and the recommended 7.6(9).
The WS-X6748-GE-TX is a 48-port 10/100/1000 Ethernet data center module, ideal for high-performance data center deployments. Its primary application is for data center and server farms since the buffer size per port is 1.3 MB. The module features a 40-Gbps switch fabric connection to support 48 ports, and supports up to a 9000-byte jumbo frame size. A field-upgradeable forwarding daughter-card distributed Cisco Express Forwarding option allows flexible, "pay-as-you-grow" scalable performance and investment protection. Also, it does not support PoE.
