I recommend that you manage your subscription and notification settings by clicking on your avatar up on the right corner.
Select "My subscriptions" to get an overview of your current subscriptions. Here you can also make advanced settings like to be automatically subscribed to anything you participated in, favorite email format and much more!
To subscribe to anything new in a category like discussion or blogs, go to that specific category and select options (next to the "three dots"). Here you can subscribe and get email notifications or RSS feed or invite a friend ;)
