Cisco Devices maintenance/internal dust

Hi there,

Following and inspection of our router/switch and other Cisco components, I have realised that this devices inside are full of dust covering up abundantly all the components.

- What is in your experience the best approach to clean them? Possible to do it internally with some specific tools/tchniques (air compressor/etc or better to bring them to a specialised tech?

- What are the consequences/risks with of leaving them as they are?

Any tip is welcome!

Thanks

Hi

Around here we have a say " dont try to fix what is not broken". But, the situation you described is very common and the outcome is unpredictible. First, check for the device uptime. If the uptime is not that long, the risk is small. You turn the device off, clean up very carefuly with some air compressor (dry ar) no umidity.

But if the uptme is too long be really carefully. Turn devices with very long uptime might increase the risk. Make sure you have backup config and make sure the impact it may cause in case anything goes wrong on this process.

If the device have redundancy is one thing, if not, it  is more complicate.
