BITS Out question on an ONS-15454

Stephen King

I have a user that has a two node 15310CL network that is not optically connected to my ONS network. He needs a PRS level timing source for his network, but there is no external timing source available to him in that building. Can I program the ONS15454 BITS-1 out to provide the external source to his network? My 15454 is configured for LINE side timing.

If this is possible, what would be the Cable pinout be between the 310CL and the 454?

Thanks for any help.

Steve

Steve,

The 15454 can provide a BITS-OUT to the 15310 via the BITS-OUT wire-wrap pins on the back of the15454 Chassis.

The 15310 CL has an RJ-45 connector for the BITS Input with Pin 6 (-) and Pin 3 (+).  Here is a link to the user documentation that covers the pinout for the 15310 CL:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/optical/15000r9_0/15310/sonet/procedure/guide/310a90_dlp0.html#wpxref12757

And Here's the link for the 15454 Pins:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/optical/15000r9_0/15454/sonet/procedure/guide/454a90_dlp0.html#wpxref12757

Tip = (+)

Ring = (-)

To connect between the two, conect Tip(+) to Tip(+) and Ring(-) to Ring(-)

You will then need to enable the BITS-IN on the 15310 as the Timing source

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/optical/15000r7_0/15310/15310_cl_ma/procedure/guide/3107ndtu.html#wp108999

And the BITS-OUT on the 15454:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/optical/15000r9_0/15454/sonet/procedure/guide/454a90_dlp0.html#wpxref98779

BITS-1 Out/BITS-2 Out—Define the timing references for equipment wired to the BITS Out pins on the backplane. BITS-1 Out and BITS-2 Out are enabled when BITS-1 and BITS-2 facilities are put in service. If Timing Mode is set to External, choose the OC-N card used to set the timing. If Timing Mode is set to Line, you can choose an OC-N card or choose NE Reference to have the BITS-1 Out and/or BITS-2 Out follow the same timing references as the NE.

Jiminey Crickets, I forgot to enable the BITS-out reference List. I think this will fix my problem. I will let you know.   Thanks for the help!!

That worked, Thanks for the help.
