Hi,

I would like to know if i can replace traditional ring infrastructutre (IE3000 switch with fiber connection in ring topology) with cisco PON solution.

My scenario is a MAN where broadcast traffic (comming from devices to ie3000 access switches) must be transfered to central monitoring unit (root of mst ring).

What are the superior benifits ( if there are) of PON over traditional mst (multiple spanning tree) ring ? is there simmilar link failure (redundancy) mechanism as mst ?

Please provide me with answer (or a link to a good reference)

Regards

A PON (passive optical network) is an access technology, typically providing no redundancy or route diversity. Link to Cisco DPON whitepaper.
