Hi,
Please let me know what all standard/proprietary OAM (Operation,Administration & Management) tools are available for managing/troubleshooting faults in WDM and SDH networks.

If it's a Cisco-based network (ONS 15454 and such), one can use either the built-in Cisco Transport Controller (CTC) or the big brother Cisco Transport Manager (CTM).

If you want to use a 3rd party, you can install netoptics network taps
www.netoptics.com You can then have this feed to a system such as HP openview.

A passive tap will require a device to analyze/interpret the data stream. HP OpenView is an IP network manager, replying on snmp for information. SONET/WDM typically uses inline OAM signalling for error detection and provisioning. Vendor-specific solutions tyipcally are used for tapping into that data stream.
