I have a 4507R+E. Slots 3 and 4 have the Supervisor Sup 6L-E 10GE (X2), 1000BaseX (SFP) modules installed.
This device is live in a production environment. Documentation does not explicitly state whether one can install X2-10GB-SR GBICs into unpopulated GBIC slots of the Sup 6L-E while device is live.
I would think so since the GBIC slots are not configured and are unpopulated.
Anyone had adverse effects by installing X2-10GB-SR GBICs into empty slots of Sup6L-E on a live production device?

Yes they are hot swappable. Online insertion and removal is supported. The only affect on the rest of the device is that due to the connection or removal of the interface (routing or spanning tree convergence etc.)

Thank you Marvin. I have already performed the task. Since the interfaces were shutdown and disabled, I did not think that inserting a GBIC into the slot would affect routing or spanning tree convergence.
