I hope this message finds you well.
I would like to inquire about the breakout configuration support on the N9K-X97160YC-EX module running NX-OS version 9.3(11).
Specifically, I would like to know if it is possible to configure a 40G or 100G port to operate in breakout mode, dividing it into four 10G ports.
Could you please confirm whether this functionality is supported on this module and NX-OS version?
If so, I would also appreciate it if you could share any relevant configuration guides or CLI references for implementing this feature.

We plan to connect the breakout ports to a C9200-48P switch, which is equipped with a 10G uplink module.

Is it possible to apply breakout configuration on a 40/100G port of the N9K-X97160YC-EX module?
If so, can we use a CVR-QSFP-SFP10G converter module to connect it as 10G?

- @YuseokHwang33882 It's not listed in https://tmgmatrix.cisco.com/?npid=39

We need to connect one of the 40/100G ports on the N9K-X97160YC-EX module to a 10G port.
Could you please advise which transceiver module should be used to enable this connection?
We are planning to use an LC-type multimode fiber (LC-MMF) cable for the connection.

Can we simply insert a CVR-QSFP-SFP10G converter into a QSFP port on the N9K-X97160YC-EX module, and then use a GLC-SX-MMD SFP without configuring breakout mode?
We would like to know if this setup is supported without requiring breakout configuration.

You can't because it's not compatible (ref : https://tmgmatrix.cisco.com/?npid=39 )
You need to look into these breakout cables which I mentioned earlier,

According to the compatibility matrix, it seems that using a GLC-SX-MMD SFP in a QSFP port requires a QSA (CVR-QSFP-SFP10G). Is that correct?
05-01-2025 02:15 AM
- In my opinion that's not correct ,

I see, thank you. In the following setup, what is the recommended approach if the connection must go through an FDF (MMF patch panel)?
N9K-X97160YC-EX module <-> FDF (MMF) <-> C9200P-4X

- @YuseokHwang33882 I am not familiar with that particular patch panel (model/type) ; consult guide to check if that
is possible what you want or else contact support from manufacturer for details,
