Bi-Directional, SMOF, 160KM

Considering reconfiguring the fibre link to our offshore export terminal from two fibre core unidirectional to single fibre core bidirectional.

 The span is about 160km, single mode, with a path loss of about 30dB.

 The scenario appears to be possible using Fibrolan optical amplifiers and passive multiplexors, but we would like to stick with Cisco devices, if possible.

 Do Cisco manufacture SFPs and optical amplifiers that would accommodate bi-directional, single core SMOF over this 160km span?”

Hi Ashmazabow,

Sure, you can get systems that support this distance from Cisco. You probably need to look at Cisco ONS.

However, you do not mention link speed. You should be able to do this with third party SFP's and Mux'es without any amplifiers if you are doing only Gigabit Ethernet.

10G,  you would need amplifiers and DCM's 

100G, you need amplifiers, 

There is CWDM optics for GigE that goes up to about 37dB, so for low channel count Muxes, there you should make it on your optical budget.
