Cisco: Low Optical Transmit Power

Does this point to an issue with an SFP?

We have a 4500-x vss stack, through which runs the heartbeat for a bunch of vrrp groups upstream, both routers have been going active due to loss of heartbeat.

One of the switch uplinks has a tx power of -10db on the switch, but router upstream is showing healthy rx signal of -5db.

Hello,

To check if the values are under the proper intervals, we would have to check under these commands:

show hw-module subslot X/X transceiver X status
show hw-module subslot X/X transceiver X idprom detail

Keep in mind that you should identify the link and substitute the X's with the proper values.

Thanks.

We had an issue the other day where we were within the length that the SFP should perform at and the fiber optic cable was passing the test. We used a more powerful SFP and it corrected the issue.
