Designing a CWDM network

I am interested in designing a simple point to point CWDM link between two 3550 switches. I have been having trouble finding information about what I need. I know I need the CWDM GBICs (different colors) however what cables do I need(SMF) and do the cables come conditioned for the laser for short distances? If I need an inline optical attenuator to compensate for the shorter distance where do I find one? I have seen the links on the CWDM but it does not go into too much detail. If I use for cwdm gbics between two 3550 I do not need to use an OADM. But can I use an OADM between two 3550 and four cwdm gbics? Do the OADMs handle the line conditioning for the short distance?

This is for a lab. The distance between the switches can be from 1 to 5 meters. Can anyone help????

Thanks...

For the details on the CWDM GBIC colours, refer the ordering information section of the following doc:It also contains info about OADMs.
