It means old-standard GBIC will only support OM1 and OM2.  If someone uses OM3 and OM4, the links will not work.

Hello,

The link work normally during many months, and after many many errors (Rx and Tx Warnings), the link is stopped.

And, it's impossible to restart the link (shut / no shut).

No red light come from the mini-gbic...

I search a technical explanation between OM2 come from the mini-gbic, and the OM4 optical fiber cable ...

Regards,

I have already answered this question in the other thread.  OM1/OM2 optics will not work work with OM3/OM4 cables (and vice versa).  One of the effects for not following this guideline is large amount of line errors due to signal loss.

Hello,

I need more details to explain each steps of this failed.

We already know that the light signal is lost, because the LED are dead.

At the beginning, it works during many months ...

But what happen, with details, to the light between the OM2 LED (Tx), and the OM4 Cable, and the OM2 LED (Rx) ?

Why the LED is dead (or the electronics) ?

-

My feeling is that le LED ans its electronics go over the minimum or the maximum power range established by the Supplier.

(Like an Fuel Engine : too much RPM, and the engine is broken)

But my feeling is not enough, an technical explanation is mandatory ...

(If we must replace all these mini-gbic, the cost will be around 20 k€)

The LED is dead because the optics are "fried".

And why the LED is fried ?

The OPTICS are fried.  The LED indicator of the switch is off because the optic is dead.
