WWDM confusion

According to the Cisco XENPAK doc, LX4 uses WWDM. I couldn't find a whole lot of reference on WWDM.

My understanding is that with CWDM and DWDM, you need either a passive mux/demux or a OADM for wavelength aggregation. Does that apply to WWDM as well? In other words, can I take two switches with LX4 XENPAK and connect them via SMF without mux/OADM?

As far I know, the LX4 has internal CWDM Mux/Demux which send 10G via 4 times 2,5 G. It is standard, but noone support it. You can connect just LX4 again another LX4 Xenpak, but not to another one. On the other hand the distnance is longer then SR LR Xenpaks. So you will not need external mux/demux....
