1CE1B module - No voice-ports ???

Hi all,

I installed a 1CE1B (One-Port Channelized E1 or ISDN Primary Rater Interface (E1/ISDN PRI) Network Module, 120 ohm balanced) module as shown in this link:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps2797/products_tech_note09186a00800b1150.shtml

in a 3640 in order to connect it to a PBX, but there were no voice-ports to configure. Is this module only for data (modem) calls?

I tried 3 different IOS.

From my personal experience. But I am pretty sure, because in 3640, you have absolutely no DSPs on their own, so if you want to do voice, you need NM with DSPs. And this one you installed doesn't have them.

Simple as that. :)

This indicates that the module is a data module.

Of course there are no voice ports to configure. This is (as far as I can see) data only module.

You will need appropriate NM, which will accept DSPs and VIC.

See this links:

Hi Nikola.

Thank you for your reply. I need to know for sure that this is only a data module, so do you know any documentation about it or do you know this from personal experience ?

Thanks again

I believe you are right, I just needed a document to rely on.

Hi Sankar,

Thank you for your links. The first link is the same as mine in the conversation start. Funny thing, I didn't see anything about being a data module the first time I read it. On second site I saw this:

The channelized E1/ISDN PRI modules receive and transmit data bidirectionally at the E1 rate of 2.048 Mbps and provide up to 30 virtual channels per E1 port

I should be more carefull I guess. Anyway, a second opinion is always welcome.
