I have a client with a sumsung office serv500 PBX, which I according to the specs supports H.323, SIP, G.711 and g.729.

Has anybody any experience of intergrating a cisco ATA with a 3rd party pbx?

Regards

Steve

The Cisco Analog Telephone Adaptor (ATA) 186 is a handset-to-Ethernet adaptor that interfaces regular analog phones with IP-based telephony networks. The ATA 186 has two voice ports that were designed to support legacy analog touch-tone telephones. Unlike the regular Foreign Exchange Station (FXS) ports, these cannot be interfaced with a PBX as the ATA 186 cannot send out digits on these ports. Both voice ports can be used simultaneously as long as they are configured with different telephone numbers.

This is not the case.

It would be possible to 'piggyback' the samsung off the call manager by connecting the 2 ATA ports to 2 analogue trunk ports of the pbx. This is not a complicated proccess, but is somewhat limiting.

For a start there is always the possibility of the samsung not being able to detect clear dowon of the caller and so the line remains busy if the call ends up at a device such as a voicemail or answering machine.

second unless the samsung analogue ports can be configured as piggyback ports and so be able to send hookflash, then any incoming call to the samsung can not be transfered back over the same port of the ata to an IP phone.

If this is the only means you have of connecting the 2 then it will work, but it can be messy and in the end possibly not worth the hassle.
