We are in the process of purchasing a Unity server. What we assked for originally was a unity server for voice messaging only but we realized that we upgarde to unified messaging later on we have to completelt reconfigure the whole system. My question is - is there a unity server that you can purchase licenses for both standard voice messging and unified messaging ? Please advise. Thank you.

I believe you can run a mix of UM and VMonly license on a Unity server. So basically you install the Unity server for UM and into your production Exchange AD enviroment. Then you can purhcase your UM license for UM enabled users. For VM Only accounts, you are expected to create a seperate AD account/Exchange box for VM only enabled subscribers.
So you could have in AD listed in the GAL:
John Doe
John Doe -VM Only
Double check though with your local Cisco SE

You can use mixed licensing starting with Unity 4.2 and a minimum of 1500 users. Take a look at the following link.

Hope this helps. If so, please rate the post.
