DMPs Need Reboot?

Michael Sellers

I've had an issue come up where the DMPs across the system will start having black screens between images, then load the images slowly.  The black screen is just a symptom of the slowdown.  A reboot resolves the issue, but it returns after about a month.  It isn't restricted to one group or another.  If I let it go long enough, it happens to all the DMPs in the system.

Is there a more permanent solution or best practice other than scheduling a reboot once a month?

DMPs are 4400G with 5.3 firmware.

Possible issue and solution\workaround other then rebooting

- Problem could be related to syslog misconfigured in default configuration
causing browser to block.   This can be worked-around by the following MIB changes:
    init.syslog_collector          change to 127.0.0.1 (Default is 192.168.1.1)

    Using DMPDM:
If syslog is disabled, enable it and set the syslog server
address to 127.0.0.1, disable it, save and restart the DMP.

    Using DMM:
create a task to change the syslog server address to 127.0.0.1
    and deploy to all DMPs.

- Disabling video failover will improve transition time.

- Enable Caching on the DMP

You may want to look at some of these options and use an extra DMP to test and see what happens
