Extending AD Schema

Will extending the AD Schema cause any downtime for my DC's? Can extending the schema have any harmful effects on my DC? Do I need to back anything up?

The only performance issue with extending the schema is the replication associated with the rebuilds of the GCs. It's not a bad idea to run it on a Friday evening if you have several sites connected over low speed links.

The Cisco Unity schema extensions will not have any negative effects on the system and you don't need to backup first.
