Hi,

I need to upgarde the unity from 3.02 to 3.04 and the pre-requisite is to install MSDE sp 1 and its hotfix first. I follow the procedure from the link and it still fails:

<A HREF="javascript:newWin('http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/788/AVVID/SQL_SP_install.html')">http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/788/AVVID/SQL_SP_install.html</A>

I find that the while installing the SP1, the processing bar will go to about 100% finish and it will go back to 0%. it terminated without any error prompt and I find that event log stated that the Msi installation fail.

I tried the SP2 and got the same result. Also, I used the same installing account to apply the patch.

Please help.

When you install the Service Pack, you need to have the service pack on your hard drive and execute it from there, with the original SQL/MSDE CD in the CD-ROM. The SP update needs the original .msi file from the CD to update..

As I said, I follow the instruction from

http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/788/AVVID/SQL_SP_install.html

I do place the CD to CDROM and execute c:\sql2ksp1\msde\setup /p SQLRUN

the error is not missing MSI file. It said the installation terminate unexpectedly.

I want to reinstall the MSDE package and upgrade to SP1. What procedure I should do to preserve UNITY data ? Any reference link? Thanks.

I would use the DiRT utility to back up the data.
