We have two different geological locations with separate domains. We want few of our users of one domain example.com to talk to users in other domain otherdomain.com ? Can we do this kind of integration and if yes please can anyone provide the steps how to do it. Thanks

Yes, you can, you can find all the related information if you search "im and presence + federation" on cisco.com or google
If they have the same default domain, you can configure an inter-cluster peer relationship, if not, you'll have to choose between the different federation options.

Hi ,
As you mentioned that these are separate domain then you can surely implement xmpp federation or sip federation. this further depends on the end clients. if the other end is using microsoft lync then you have to configure SIP federation. please refer the below guides
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/im_presence/interdomain_federation/10_5_1/CUP0_BK_I07B7052_00_integration-guide-interdomain-federation-105/CUP0_BK_I07B7052_00_integration-guide-interdomain-federation-105_chapter_00.html

If the other side is also IM and Presence using jabber clients then you should go with XMPP federation. Please refer the below guide.
