Intra-Cluster Req for Cluster Over WAN

I'm currenlty in the planning phase of deploying Intra-cluser over MPLS WAN.

There is a two way 40ms RTT req for intra-cluster communication.

What I need to find out if there is a way of test 40ms RTT from node-to-node (SUB to PUB) beside simple PING.

Also, what whould I be looking for if I use some kind of packet generator ? Are there any freeware availble for testing this kind of req?

You can do a traceroute also for finding the RTT.
