Hi,
One of our customer has sixteen locations connected thru 54 KBPS dedicated VSAT link.
Can I implement IP Telephony over VSAT Network ?

Hi,
Yes you can, we have clients that have drilling platforms and ships that we have put IP Phones on. G729 will be the encapsulation (one call). Please set the expectations that rain fade will happen. I would be happy to send you configs and discuss more.

What kind of round trip time do you have over the link ? 150ms delay is OK for voice, even though I have seen networks upto 400 ms run ok with voice. Also you need to set the codec to g729, which essentially eats upto 20 kbps per call. So the max number of calls you can send across is approx. 3 without deteriorating the quality. You will need to setup a gatekeeper of some sort, to reroute calls over PSTN, incase WAN runs out of bandwidth. Also I would recommend adding LLQ (depends on how your VSAT link is interfaced with your Cisco router)
