When using softphone to call an IP phone the voice quality is exelent but when calling out throught the gateway with softphone the voice from the softphone is of poor quality. This does not happen when using 7960 for the same outward call.

Is it only the PSTN side that hears the poor voice quality? Is the PC with with softphone on the same VLAN (if there are any VLANs) as the 7960's? If all is going well, there shouldn't be a problem...I've used the softphone for that exact situation and it works fine. What kind of a gateway is this?

Yes it is only the PSTN side that hears the poor voice quality. I am not using VLAN for this and the gateway is 2600 with NM-HDV-1E1-30
