Power Failure Options

I have a 3845 router with a VIC2-4FXO connected to the PSTN through a Power Failure Transfer Unit. I don't have much information about the PFTU it is a third party product offered by our Nortel TDM Manager for use within Cisco.

My question is, examining Cisco.com (through a mention of Power failure capabilities mentioned in my Gateway/Gatekeeper book) that the EM-HDA-6FXO overs power failure options on one port.

If the power failed to the router, would the VIC2-FXO provide any passthrough of those circuits or would I need to deploy this EM-HDA-6FXO device inorder to offer that functionality?

Hi Dave,

Most likly this PFTU is connected "in line" before the connections to the VIC2-FXO so that when you have a power fail a set of "break" contacts activate on the PFTU and transfer the POTS circuit to pre-configured Analog phones. This is exactly what the Power Fail functionality of the EM-HDA-6FXO does.

You should be good to go with what you have :)

Hope this helps!
