Presence Beyond Instant Messaging...

For many of us the first introduction of presence and instant messaging in our personal lives has been through one of consumer instant messaging applications such as Yahoo, MSN, Google Talk and others. As many businesses adopt presence and instant messaging in enterprise businesses, we are beginning to see use of presence enabled business applications beyond instant messaging.  For instance, with the Cisco Unified Expert Advisor, presence can now be used to expand the scope of the contact center by allowing presence-enabled enterprise knowledge workers to handle incoming customer calls without the need for the rigid tools and business rules typically found in formal contact centers.
