Recovering the Primary Server in a Unity Failover Procedure

We have 2 Unity servers running Unity 3.14. The primary Unity server failed and we are unable to get it back online. I am looking for the Cisco recommended procedure for the primary server rebuild.

This is what I think:

Uninstall Unity on the Primary server.

Run the DIRT DB Backup Utility on Secondary server.

Rebuild the Primary server.

Install Unity.

Restore the DB using the DIRT restore.

Rerun the failover configurator.

Does this sound correct? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Will the Unity Uninstall on the Primary hose up the Unity users objects being serviced by the secondary Unity server?

Thanks.

Why aren't you able to get the primary back online? Was there a catastrophic hardware failure? Is Unity not starting? What do you see in the app event log? Is the backup server functioning properly right now (taking calls, leaving and retrieving messages)?

There are multiple things that could go wrong with Unity starting. It would be much easier for you to troubleshoot that right now instead of trying to figure out how to get the system safely rebuilt.

We are having OS/Exchange connectivity issues. The server is not connecting to the directory, Unity is not starting, Exchange is unavailable, you name it. But, the secondary server is working fine. Rather than wasting a bunch of time troubleshooting the customer has asked for the box to be rebuilt.
