Hello everyone

recently i've installed cisco show and share , also with live event module..    I need to run live event without DME(digital media encoder), i need to run "NON-Dme live event"  .

simply i need to attach my web cam to my live streaming event? is it possible?

There is a field "Video URL" but i dont know exactly how to  use it..

Hi Temur,

I'm afraid the Show and Share live even can only ingest a live video stream. If you want to use a webcam as source, you will always need something encoding the signal into a network video stream.

Apart from the DME, you can also achieve this with various softwares, some of them even free. You can try, for example, using VLC player (www.videolan.org) to take care of the encoding. However, I can tell you out of experience, you will need a quite powerful machine to achieve some decent results.

Hi Daniel

It is not nessesary for me to use web cam, i need live stream from usual ip camera with streaming capabilities.

I've used VLC to multicast streams, but in non-dme mode show and share can support only wmv format. It shows an error that format is not supported.

also i tried to use Hikvision network cube camera, but no success..

Can you please provide any network camera type you tried? what features should this camera to have?

thanks

Hi Temur,

It's true that the Show and Share only supports either WMV or Flash streams as input. Therefore, you need to make sure that the camera you are using has that capability.

Unfortunately, I cannot tell you of any camera that works directly, because I don't know of any. Normally, for our lab tests, we use either a DME or a Windows Media server to generate the live streams.

Anyway, I would recommend you to have a look at the link below for a list of the supported bitrates and video dimensions.

ok. thank you

one more question about live even, can i show my desktop to live eventt users? and also can i restrict access to live event(only users with special password can see this event)?

Hi Temur,

I'm afraid the answer is no to both questions.

Daniel
