Unity VM - Failover configuration

In the following environment, how many servers are required?

Unity VM (ver 3.1.5 - IP only with CM 3.2.2), no integration with customer AD or network (layer 4 and above), in failover configuration. Am I going to need 4 servers? 1 for Exchange and the other 2 for SQL? And yet one (minimally) additional to host the AD?

Well, certainly you need one for each unity server and one for an off box exchange store (wont make much of a failover system if Exchange is on one of the Unity boxes) but you should be able to use the off box Exchange store as your GC as well if necessary. In an ideal situation you'd have a dedicated GC/DC box seperate here but it's not strictly necessary.
