Hi all,
I tried to upgrade my S&S from Version 5.2.1 to Version 5.2.2.
Before I upgrades DMM/DMP4400G from V5.2.1 to V5.2.2 without any problems.
Errormessage on my Console S&S: System detected is unknown!
Running V5.2.1 does not show correct AAI information now (no Serialnumber, no Version-ID)
Also a downgrade to 5.2 failes with the same Error-Message.
Any ideas?
Bernhard

Hi b.lang,
What procedure have you followed exactly?
Did you go by the AAI-> upgrade software?
or did you insert the dvd and restarted your server?

Hi,
I`ve done with local AAI-Access->Appliance-Control->Software Update!
As I wrote before no problem with my DMM!

Please provide the screen capture of the AAI-->
Show Information from the SnS..
Also, If you followed the upgrade procedure
exactly, you should have made a backup prior
to the upgrade. So the the procedure to downgrade
would be install 5.2-->Upgrade 5.2.1-->Restore Backup-->Upgrade to 5.2.2
Note: The above assumes that you have started you DMS appliances from 5.2
originally. If you started prior to 5.2 (like 5.1) you would need to go back to that
previous release to start the upgrade process.
But before downgrading, you need to check the .iso image for the 5.2.2 SNS upgrade
image. This is a typical symptom of a CORRUPT image. Check the MD5 Hash of
the image.
ie.
Cisco Show and Share - Release:5.2.2 Filename: sns521to522.iso 0abeb4aa2f734e81c95b15f1c483be30 $ openssl md5 sns521to522.iso MD5(sns521to522.iso)= 0abeb4aa2f734e81c95b15f1c483be30

Bernhard,
Please refer to the FAQ that I just added to the forum:
https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-14071
Here are the potential issues that I believe is the cause of
your error:
1. Probably this issue, Try burning the CD\DVD at a LOWER speed. The DMS appliances
can be sensitive to the speed of the DVDs. We have seen issues with new DVD drives and
there burning speeds.
2. The Absence of a serial# is also not good. If #1 does not work, You may need to record the
serial# from the sticker attached to appliance and then boot the appliance. During the boot cycle
go into the SETUP BIOS and ADD the SERIAL# in the BIOS. Once this is SAVED and the
appliance reboots. Go to the AAI of the SnS and see if the correct Serial# is displayed. After
this is verified, try the upgrade again.
Cheers!
T.

Hello Thomas,
I tried as you recommend but nothing will solve my issue.
When I press the show_info in AAI we saw some warning messages that points to not existing files and/or directories (see the attacjhed pictures)!
I think there is origin for all the issue with our S&S appliance.

Hi Tomas,
I see this listed as “answered” but I’m not sure what the resolution is as Bernhard seems to have the last word?
The reason I ask is that I have exactly the same problem. I get the same “show_info.jpg” and “Upgrade_message.jpg” as Bernhard after a failed SnS upgrade from 5.2.1 to 5.2.2 and similarly, the DMM upgraded fine.
I originally burnt the image using my work HP ProBook 6450b which seemed to be fine but I’m using a different machine to rule out the laptop. So I’ve just downloaded again (and verified the md5) and have burnt (and verified) the finished disk at the slowest speed my drive will work at (4x) on my home PC and will try it again after re-adding the serial number, as that, the same as Bernhard is missing too.
Bernhard appears to be suggesting that the FAQ’s haven’t helped and the problem still remains (or am I getting that wrong)?
To make sure I understand this, do I simply need to add the serial number and try to upgrade again with my “slow” burnt disk and this will now work?
Thanks,
David

Hi David, hi Thomas,
your FaQ does not resolve my issue! I burnt my S&S update image also with a Hp Probook 6540b (!), Software is ImgBurn V2.5.2.0, and the lowest speed (2.x). The MCS serialnumber is still visible in the BIOS, but not on the AAI/show_info!
I think the real source for my issue is that the MCS missing some files/directories; look at the images on my last posting!
So the discussion is not realy "ansered"; maybe I have checked this button.
We will open a TAC-Case to resolve this issue.
Thanks all,
Bernhard
