Voice Gateway for MGCP & H.323

I hve a Cisco Access Server 5300. Can it support both H.323 & MGCP at the same time? I have read numerous source and some said yes while others said no.

Otherwise, I will have to resort back to my 2600 which I think it supports both.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,

L.

Lee,

There is no limitation on the 5300 that prevents you from simultaneously using H.323 and MGCP at the same time.

Hi Ademola,

So a 5300 can be like a 2600 where I can used it as a Voice Gateway and it supports both H.323 & MGCP at the same time?

Thanks,

Lee

Lee,

Actually since I don't know how you are planning to use this 5300, let me make a clarifcation to my earlier post.

Yes the 5300 can use H.323 and MGCP simultaneously. However there is a difference with the 2600 in that the 5300 cannot be an MGCP gateway for CallManager (That is not supported).

The 5300 can be an MGCP gateway for other Call Agents. An example would be the PGW2200.

In summary, the 5300 can be used as voice gateway in both H.323 mode and MGCP mode, with the caveat that it cannot be used in MGCP mode with Call Manager.

Hope that answers your question.
