Its a difficult question.
Firstly its not operationally impacting, but it is good administrative behavior if possible in a given organization.
In my experience, the design is mostly driven by need. Different application and technologies have different requirements. Consider that and you might be heading in the right direction.
The type of Comany and Data Center purpose would also play a key part.
