Hi there
Today i tried to configure a N2K-C2232PF-10GE FEX on a N5K-C5020P-BF. Running 5.0.3.N1.1b code I wasn't able to get the FEX working and there were a lot of strange errors:
2011 May 4 12:31:50 N5K %SATCTRL-FEX111-2-SOHMS_ENV_ERROR: FEX-111 shutting down in 60s due to fan direction incompatible
2011 May 4 12:32:41 N5K %SATCTRL-FEX111-2-SOHMS_ENV_ERROR: FEX-111 shutting down in 10s due to fan direction incompatible
2011 May 4 12:32:51 N5K %SATCTRL-FEX111-2-SOHMS_ENV_ERROR: FEX-111 is shutting down
2011 May 4 12:33:19 N5K %PFMA-2-FEX_STATUS: Fex 111 is offline
After downgrading to 5.0.2.N2.1 the FEX worked without any problems.
Is there a known bug or does anybody seen something like this before?
Thanks for your responses
Marcel

Hi Marcel,
This is most likely due to the following bug:
CSCto81320 N2K-C2232-FAN parts misidentified as N2K-C2232-FAN-B parts
Symptom:
The N2K-C2232-FAN part is being misidentified as the part N2K-C2232-FAN-B and
causes the FEX to go down because it is incompatible to have a back-to-front
airflow fan module with a front-to-back power supply.
You will see the following error messages in the "show log" output.
2011 Apr 14 06:53:02 nex5k-a %SATCTRL-FEX103-2-SOHMS_ENV_ERROR: FEX-103
shutting down in 50s due to fan direction incompatible
2011 Apr 14 06:53:12 nex5k-a %SATCTRL-FEX103-2-SOHMS_ENV_ERROR: FEX-103
shutting down in 40s due to fan direction incompatible
Also in the "show inventory" output you will see that the switch is
misidentifying the part.
NAME: "FEX 103 Fan 1", DESCR: "Fabric Extender Fan module"
PID: N2K-C2232-FAN-B , VID: N/A , SN: N/A
Conditions:
How to tell if you are running into this issue.
Method A:
1. Confirm the sticker on the part says N2K-C2232-FAN and not N2K-C2232-FAN-B.
2. Look at the "show inventory" output and see that the part is identified as
N2K-C2232-FAN-B instead of N2K-C2232-FAN
Method B:
1. Confirm the sticker on the part says N2K-C2232-FAN and not N2K-C2232-FAN-B.
2. Look at the connector and see that the wiring is reversed as per the
pictures attached.
Workaround:
None. You will have to do a RMA to get a correctly wired N2K-C2232-FAN module.
------------------------
If you run the 'show inventory' command does it show the part mentioned in the above notes?
Thanks,
/gary
