is FP the overlay in traditional DC based on N7K while VXLAN is the overlay in DC based ACI

Hi Guys

 

I am confused between Fabric Path and VXLAN

 

As per my Initial Understanding

 

is FP the overlay in traditional DC based on N7K while VXLAN is the overlay in DC based ACI

Yes and no, typical NK’s would use OTV as the overall protocol, while ACI does use VxLAN for the overlay it also uses a slew of other protocols such as EVPN, MP-BGP, And CooP. You can also run VxLAN in other Nexus switches without ACI, but it’s best to use ACI with the APICs for a full deployment.

Traditional DCs support a number of overlays like FP, OTV, VXLAN, DFA depending on the switch hardware.

FP is supported on 7K/5k/6k

OTV is 7K specific

VXLAN  includes pretty much most Nexus platform.

DFA again limited to 7K/5k/6k

 

Always look at the release notes for exact support details.
