Migrate virtual cisco asa to another virtualization platform

Hi,

We are going to migrate a cisco asa (virtual) from KVM to VMWare and in short we are going to create a new vm for the vASA and then migrate the configuration on the existing one. I just want to see what others think or maybe have for experience! I will do a backup config through the asdm and the restore on the new one. Is it a good to go approach?

Correct,

that might be the best approach to backup and restore your vASA into another virtualized platform, and I'm referring to ASA backup, and not regular snapshot.

I prefer make config backup to tftp server, then do migration and restore the config to ASAv in new vm.

NOTE:- I have little info. but the Ver. of ASAv for cloud is different than the ASAv in VM, the file is different also,  the VM need .ova, do you have these file from cisco ?

This approach is right. make sure take the full backup copy. you can do it from ASDM or you can use TFTP/SCP server too. Prior to moving config to asav activiate the asav licience first once licience is activited through smart lic you can restore the running-config from KVM to vmware.

Thank you all for your suggestion.

The existing ASAv is running on 9.16(3)23 version. I intend to download the same software version on software.cisco.com. I see there is a version for the vmware:
