We are planning to upgrade our Nexus 5548 switches from the standard Layer 2 configuration to Layer 3 configuration, using the
N55-D160L3 daughter card. Do we need to purchase a separate license for the Layer 3 capability or can we use what we already have? Currently, we are running the following firmware on our Nexus 5548 swtiches:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Software
BIOS: version 3.5.0
loader: version N/A
kickstart: version 5.0(3)N2(1)
system: version 5.0(3)N2(1)
power-seq: Module 1: version v3.0
Module 2: version v1.0
Module 3: version v2.0
uC: version v1.2.0.1
BIOS compile time: 02/03/2011
kickstart image file is: bootflash:///n5000-uk9-kickstart.5.0.3.N2.1.bin
kickstart compile time: 6/13/2011 6:00:00 [06/13/2011 13:43:33]
system image file is: bootflash:/n5000-uk9.5.0.3.N2.1.bin

As usual, it depends. Below is the details of the default base license and the Enterprise license. Hope it helps.
Layer 3 Base License
The Layer 3 base license (N55-BAS1K9) is included with the Cisco Nexus 5500 Platform switch. The license provides the following support:
Connected, Static, RIPv2, OSPF (256 Dynamically Learnt Routes), EIGRP-Stub, HSRP, VRRP, IGMPv2/3, PIMv2, RACLs, uRPF
Layer 3 LAN-Enterprise License
The Layer 3 LAN Enterprise license (N55-LAN1K9) includes the following:
•All base license features
•Full EIGRP
•Unrestricted OSPF routes
•BGP
•VRF-Lite

Looks like you don't have any required L3 license. Like Collin said, you need minimum of Layer 3 Base (
LAN_BASE_SERVICES_PKG).
Please take a look at Table 2:

You need at least a base license, which is free of cost. Just contact your account team or TAC.

can we have 5500 Layer 3 capability without L3 daughter card?

can we have 5500 Layer 3 capability without L3 daughter card?
Without the L3 daughter card, the 5500 is nothing but a Layer 2 switch. You can connect a router that will do the routing OR if you have a Nexus 7K upstream with an F1/M1/M2 or F2 card, then it's possible.

Hello,
When we list the available features for each license package on the cisco nexus licensing guide (page 5)
the N55-BAS1K9 provide unresitrcted OSPF routing capabilities. but on the Cisco web site they seen that the
N55-BAS1K9 provide a limited (256 routes) learned via OSPF.
Please would you confirme witch one is correct?
N.B : the hardware plateforme is NX5K 5596UP with L3 Routing module 160Gbps.
