vNIC failover sequence

I have two vNICs on a UCS ESXi host, with vNIC-A pinned to FI-A, and vNIC-B pinned to FI-B. Enable failover is checked for vNIC-A. From FI-A, I have two discreet uplinks, and vNIC-A is dynamically pinned to an uplink. Let's say vNIC-A is pinned to Uplink 1.

My question is, when uplink 1 fails, would vNIC-A get pinned to uplink 2 on FI-A, or because "enable failover" is checked, it will get pinned to FI-B. In other words, would all the uplinks from the FI have to fail in order for the vNIC to failover to FI-B?

Thanks for the help!

Hello,

I hope that you are doing great.

With server vNIC failover, traffic fails over to the other fabric interconnect and no interruption occurs. So with that failover enable, the connection from the vNIC-A to FI -A fails it would be connected to FI-B. Although, with the deployment of a redundancy uplinks to the same FI we would need more details about it.

For instance, as we don't have details about what UCS server you are using and how the system is deployed. I would suggest you to contact our Technical Assistance Center (TAC). This is the dedicated group highly trained with troubleshooting, and other Post- sales related concerns.

You may contact them via email at tac@cisco.com. Also, you can open a case for this issue at http://tools.cisco.com/ServiceRequestTool/create/launch.do or call them directly, to get the numbers for specific country go to: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/support/tsd_cisco_worldwide_contacts.html

Hopefully they will help.

Best Regards.
