Hi all,

I have a 3524-PWR switch that was having issues. I replaced it with a new one and the issues persist. Here's the log messages:

00:00:12: %LINK-4-ERROR: is experiencing errors

00:00:16: Assert failure in ../src-malibu/dm_addr.c line 1544

00:00:16: %SYS-5-CONFIG: Configured from NVRAM by console

00:00:18: %SYS-5-RESTART: System restarted --

It doesnt appear to read any of the config data or see the fast ethernet ports, but only the gig ports. I reflashed the IOS to the latest available for that hardware. Ideas?

I'd like to get this fixed ASAP. Please reply and points will be awarded.

Thanks!

This XL switch has failed and needs to be replaced. Open a TAC case if you have a service contract.

The first switch this happened to was 7 months old. The second switch (I replaced it) is brand new. I find it highly odd that this has happened to two units???

It is my understanding that "assert" failures are situations in which the software has detected a really awful failure, which might be hardware and might be software. The approach suggested by Prashanth to RMA the box would be one way to go. But looking at the possibility of software problems may also be a possibility. Were both switches running the same version of software? If so it might be worth considering upgrading to more recent code (or down grading to older code) and see if it makes any difference.
