5500 span vlan affects Citrix application

We have a customer who wants to baseline his vlans on a Cat 5500. When we span a vlan to a port (fastethernet) the Citrix users on any vlan complain of dropped sessions and timeouts. Is Citrix a time sensitive application and is the increased load on the switch affecting packet throughput ?

We have no complaints about any other application. Anyone experienced similar effect ?

You should only span a single port, not an entire vlan. This serves no purpose and you are creating a bottleneck in the switch because all traffic must be pushed down a single 100Mb pipe.

Citrix ICA is timesensitive to some extent. Large delays may cause disconnected sessions and sluggish performance.

Thanks for the reply. This begs the question though of how can a vlan on a switched network be baselined. The customer wants to know things like protocol levels, broadcast and traffic utilization etc, on each of his vlans. Without spanning a vlan, I can't see how this can be achieved.
