Appletalk Communications between VLANS

I wish to place Appletalk Workstations on different VLANS on a single routing switch and then router appletalk traffic between the workstations. If I assign a cable-range to each VLAN interface but do not assign any zone information to the switch or the workstations will they be able to see each other.?

Is there a default zone applied in an appletalk network if you do not manually specify one ?

No. Even though the zone information is not need for routing, you will need a zone name for both interfaces. They can be the same name if you want. They will show up in the chooser so you can name them "dead zone" or "Do not use".
