Has anyone else noticed the following? :
When you enable a dhcp pool on a Catalyst 2950 an IP is issued to a client. To see this assignment you issue a show ip dhcp binding command.
What I'm seeing is that the MAC address is being displayed somewhat incorrectly as in the following:
lawren-2950#show ip dhcp binding
IP address Hardware address Lease expiration Type
10.1.1.1 0100.10a4.c0d3.4b Mar 01 1993 08:02 PM Automatic
10.1.1.2 0100.0039.4418.d0 Mar 01 1993 08:26 PM Automatic
lawren-2950#
lawren-2950#
lawren-2950#
lawren-2950#ping 10.1.1.1
Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 10.1.1.1, timeout is 2 seconds:
!!!!!
Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 1/2/4 ms

My question is, does this prepended "01" have some significance?

"01" signifies the physical medium and here "01" means Ethernet. That means the client who was given out this address sits on an ethernet segment.
Hope this helps.
thanks
