[Cat2950 - 12.1(14)EA1 (EMI)] "spanning-tree optimize bpdu transmission"

I've seen this command in one of our customer's switches. I have checked the Cat2950 command reference but I didn't find the command. I also tried searching CCO and the Command Lookup Tool for the usage guidelines but I can't find such command. Is it a hidden command? I'd like to know if it is recommended to enable (or disable) this command or not.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

I've seen this question on different places several times and the Cisco answer always was:

"This command is to prevent 2950s CPU overload by trying to optimize STP BPDUs transmission." (whatever that means - my comment).

The command is always present in the 2950 config but in "no" form (no spanning-tree optimize bpdu transmission) and it is not possible to enable it.

There is no documentation about it.

So my recommendation: leave it as is.

Regards,

Milan

Thanks Milan! You were absolutely right. It's not possible to enable it. I have verified it with one of the 2950 switches we have here. I guess I don't have a choice but to leave it as is. =)

Thanks again!
