I am wondering if there will be any issues in trying to connect from a WS-G5483 GBIC in a Cat3550-12T switch to a port on a WS-X4448-GB-RJ45 module in a Cat4503, seeing as the GBIC is 1000BT where as the ports on the module are 10/100/1000BT.

You should be able to connect fine. But remember that ports on WS-X4448 module are not wire-speed. WS-X4448 is ideally suited for server farms and not to connect between switches

Can you explain the above statement a bit further? I don't understand your statement about "not wire-speed" and why is it that it's not suitable for connecting between switches. Thanks.

Each slot in a CAT4006 gets 6 gigabit connections to the Supervisor Engine through the back plane. So the maximum number of wire-speed or non blocking gigabit ports in a module can be 6. 4448 module has 48 front panel 1000 base ports and hence they get multiplexed. The port groupings can be found at
