Cisco ASA 5500 Series 4-Port Gigabit Ethernet SSM Module

I have Cisco ASA 5510 Firewall, I think this is an earlier model, it only 256MB RAM.

Current model in Cisco Web site stated that it has 1GB RAM.

The firewall is running on ASA 8.2(5) and ASDM 6.4(7).

We intend to purchase "Cisco ASA 5500 Series 4-Port Gigabit Ethernet SSM Module" so that we can have additional 4 FE/GE ports.

Is there special requirements in terms of following aspects if we will to plug the 4-Port GE SSM Module to our current Firewall?

- RAM

- BOOTIMAGE

- IOS version

- Any others?

Your kind help is very much appreciated.

Thanks you....

It should just plug in and work, especially on the OS version you are running.

However, don't expect to get full line rate out of all 4 ports. The ASA5510 has a maximum throughput of up to 300 Mbps (150 Mbps full duplex) - adding new ports will not change that. So if you expect to be able to throw 4 x 1 gigabit per second streams through it, you're going to be disappointed.

Cheers.

Thanks Darren...
