configuring a modem

i have a cisco 1700 series router.

how to configure a modem to the serial port , so that my remote computers can acess my router through dial up.

2. what are the configurations i have to do(on router side) to set a username and password to acess my router by the remote users

If U want to connect ur router to a dialup modem , then U have to use Async (AUX Port) interface on the router.

To set up username and password , U can use either local password or TACACS/RADIUS server.
