CW2K LMS RME performace issues

I have just installed LMS 2.1 which includes RME 3.4. Performance generally is pretty good with the exception of RME. Its performance is atrocious!! It has taken me 10 minutes to create an approver list of 2 people!! The web interface just runs like a snail. Has anyone had any similar experiences with RME, or have an idea of how I can fix this. The features of RME are some of the best within the LMS, but it takes so long to do anyting, it doesn't seem worth the wait.

System specs are:

Dedicated Server:

Pentium IV 2.4Ghz

2 GB RAM

80 GB Hard disk

Win2k pro SP 4 + misc security patches

MDAC 2.8

Netscape 4.79

Java 1.3.1

Norton Systemworks

Client system is a Compaq Evo N800v laptop running WinXP, same version of Netscape, Java, MDAC etc.

Your hardware has more than enough poke, so no probs there.

I'd be tempted to try using IE6 on a seperate client and let CiscoWorks update the Java client.

I know of some customers who have experienced slow problems which were resolved by Java reinstall or use of alternative browser. These were general slow issues, not specific to Approval.

If you've got the luxury, try rebuilding without the patches and SystemWorks, as I've had systems run like a dog with the addition of certain patches...and since SystemWorks used to drag my home PC down a few notches, I'm sure it's not making things any faster on your server!

If it's only the Approver stuff that's slow, then check you can send SMTP OK (may need to do this manually with some telnet to port25) and that your authentications don't take ages. Saw this where user authentication took ages at login (they were using TACACS backed of to SecurID) and some features were similarly slow, but other weren't. Setting local autntication cure it.

Service pack 4 is not supported, so this could be causing problems

See: http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/rtrmgmt/cw2000/cw2000_d/5steditn/ig_win/prereq.htm#16869

Also, try switching off any AntiVirus software

Additionally, XP is not supported either ...

The original post indicated only the client PC is running XP (which is supported).

If you open a web browser on the server and attempt to perform your actions, does it work any faster?

On the client side, you can try removing all java and java .jar files, then hit the cw2k server again and let it reload java.

The last option (but it might not be feasable if you don't have a SAS contract) is to upgrade to the lastest version(s) of LMS/RME plus all patches and updates. This will give you somewhat of a performance boost because it does provide java 1.4.x (can't remember the exact version).
