DHCP

We are currently in the process of moving to DHCP. Servers issuing IP while routers relaying DHCP request. Do I have to enable "IP direct broadcast" on the ethernet or fastethernet port ?

No ,you can config "ip help address xxx" on port .

I have already configured IP helper address and block the other UDP ports except port 67 and 68. I found out this command on the ethernet port

(no ip direct broadcast)

My question is, will I need to enable "IP direct broadcast" ?

hi

when you configure ip helper address",the router will enable to change the DHCP broadcast packet to unicast packet,so it not need to enable ip direct broadcast on port .

Thank you so much. I think that was the answer to my question.

Hi U should take care while using ip helper command as it by default forwards 8 types of UDP traffic so enable what ever u require ,why to allow unnecessary bodcasts pass through the router.use ip forward prtocol command... for this

Hi,

It is better to use the "ip helper" command. It will forward those BOOTP/DHCP UDP ports to your DHCP server...

Thanx...
