Dialer Backup Device

Hi,

Need some advice on the Backup scenario.

I got 2 sites connect via a fiber link between 2 catalyst switches.

I am planning to use ISDN link as a backup to the fiber link. However the link will not be terminated on the catalyst switches itself, but on a separate router (on both ends), then connect the router to the switch via a VLAN.

From what I read, the backup interface and the dialer watch command needs to either monitor the primary interface or the active subnet to determine whether to bring up the backup link.

So I got two issues, since my primary and secondary links are on different devices, I can't monitor the active interface.

secondaly, understand that to use dialer watch, u need to use dynamic routing protocol. however in my current network, i am just using pure static routes since i got only 2 sites. so one way I can convert to dynamic routing to resolve my issue

so need some advice how should i implement this backup plan without changing to dynamic routing protocol.

Thanks

Please find the documentation here : www.cisco.com/techsupport/---------> Technology ----------> Dial -----------> Select ISDN, select Troubleshooting and you will find the documentation on the same.

Hi kianhowtan,

I recently ready a good paper at packet magazine vol 16/2q. that address the problem of backup with static routes in ethernet links.

This approach use SSA to determine de avaliability of one specific link.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/about/ac123/ac114/ac173/Q2-04/department_techtips.html

I never implement this senarious, but seems very interesting...
