Difference between FXO and Modem?

I've recently taken a position at a new company, and I'm in the process of wrapping my brain around some new concepts. In my previous position, I rarely (if ever) had to deal with any wan equipment. One concept that seems to be giving me trouble is the difference between an FXO interface and a modem interface. All the documentation I read suggests that FXO is the interface found on a standard telephone, and yet, the 1760v's my new employer uses have both a WIC-1AM and a VIC-FXO as fallback for the frame interface. Anyone care to help a poor lan boy out?

FXO is strictly for voice interface, while wic-1am has onboard modem and can be used to dial out to internet or a remote ras server..Both ideally uses the same POTS line. The diff is that one if for voice, one is for data.
